Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies Program of the university was created in 1940. The first set of graduate students – 22 people was carried out in the following specialties: Ukrainian literature, General linguistics, Classical Philology, French, German, Law, History, Archeology, Mathematics, Biology, Geology.

961 people completed postgraduate studies from 1946 to 1975. Starting from January 1, 2015 postgraduate studies program of the University operates in 91 specialties, doctorate – in 34 of the total number of graduate students – 773, doctoral students – 10.

Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies Program is structural subdivision of the university, subordinated to the Rector and Vice-Rector for scientific work, operates on the basis of the Charter of the University, Regulations on training scientific-pedagogical and scientific personnel of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and in practical work follows directions of the rector, the internal Regulations and applicable legislation.

The main task of the department is the organization of training of highly qualified specialists (candidates and doctors of sciences), execution of orders and instructions of the Ministry and the Rector of the University for the preparation of scientific-pedagogical and scientific personnel, the observance of the principle of selection of candidates for academic degrees according to their qualification and scientific qualities.
